Top Tips for Raw Feeding

Before we dive into our top tips, let’s answer a common question. What is raw feeding and why is it beneficial? Raw feeding is exactly what it sounds like; giving your dog a diet made up of high-quality uncooked, unprocessed meats, bones, fruits and vegetables, free of artificial ingredients, fillers, and preservatives.

Advocates believe it has a whole host of benefits that range from the seemingly superficial – like a healthy coat and better smelling breath; to the important – think increased energy, improved eyesight, better muscle tone and overall heart health.

3 Tips for Successful Raw Feeding

1. Choose High Quality Foods

At Pet Evolution, we choose to sell foods (both raw and kibble) that are respectfully and responsibly sourced with the best ingredients, for optimal health. Steve’s Real Food, Raw Bistro, and Primal Foods are a few of our trusted raw food brands that feature organic, pasture-fed and free-range ingredients.

2. Handle Properly

Remember your dog’s raw food must be handled with the same safety precautions as raw human foods. Be mindful to keep small children away from pet bowls, store foods at the proper temperature and wash hands thoroughly, both before and after preparing your pet’s meal.

3. Ease Into It

While it can be tempting to jump into raw feeding full force, if your dog has been kibble fed previously, it’s best to start slow. This transition may take up to a week, but will depend on your dogs age, activity level and general health. Take a look at our full transition guide here.
